Paul's commentary on MindWalking in BaliI first heard about Ulrich Kramer's Mind Walking course in Bali just a few months before it was to be given. I had little information about it and had never heard of it before but something in my internal guidance system told me to go. And so I did. Ulrich is competent, unflappable, and funny with a light touch in everything. He is able to both monitor the activities of the group as a whole and deal with the issues that sometimes come up from deep within a given person. He is clearly the master of his topic. Ulrich was able to guide the workshop to where he wanted it to go with a firm hand while, at the same time, being very flexible. He was there not only to teach but also to enjoy the experience himself and in so being he set the tone whereby everyone else could learn and enjoy the experience too. He has an active curiosity and interest on simultaneous interleaving levels that make him a delight to be around, whether in class or off exploring Bali. The Mind Walking course covers a lot of ground in crisp concise way. Most impressive is that it builds up a set of skills based upon the experiences gained in the exercises. Time and again people commented on how they dealt with something that came up in a way that was just like they handled a similar situation in an earlier exercise. The exercises of each of the four-day sessions laid the foundation for the sessions to come along later. I saw people with little or no prior experience do remarkable things near the end of the training. I dont want to relate any details about what happened in any of the sessions with other people but will close with the following story from my own experience. I was working with a young lady who was entirely new to this whole area. She gained so much from the first part of the training that when she worked with me on the last two days she created a space where I felt completely free to communicate. She presented no evaluations or judgement and did not ever resist or turn away from what I needed to get out. There were clearly occasions when something I was relating kicked off something similar in her and yet she was able to place a little of her attention on it and let it go without ever taking her attention off of me. To me it looked like she somehow expanded her awareness when these things lit up and there were small bursts, like firecrackers going off, in the energy behind her. Then she came right back to having her total attention on what I was saying. All of this was accomplished while I was still getting my stuff out and in such a way that I was able to watch it happening in her space without any interruption to the flow of communication from me. Her presence and attention were almost palpable and the experience of the two of us being in that space was extraordinary. I feel even today that I can reach out and experience it, not as a memory, but as something still living and real. I would recommend Ulrichs Mind Walking workshop to anyone and I am sure that virtually any other types of training he does would be done with the same degree of competence. Paul Ohmart
